Production
Principal photography commenced in July 2022 and concluded in January 2023. The film was produced by Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika Films in collaboration with Zee Studios.
The soundtrack features compositions by G. V. Prakash Kumar and Arko, with lyrics penned by Manoj Muntashir. The film score is composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara. The first single, "Singhasan Khali Karo," was released on 26 August 2024.
Release
"Emergency" faced multiple postponements due to certification delays and political sensitivities. Initially slated for release in October–November 2023, it was rescheduled several times before finally hitting theaters on 17 January 2025. The film was banned in Bangladesh and faced protests in Punjab, leading to limited screenings in certain regions.
Reception
Upon release, "Emergency" received mixed reviews. While Kangana Ranaut's portrayal of Indira Gandhi was widely praised, the film attracted criticism for its narrative and direction. The Hindustan Times noted that fine acting performances, led by Ranaut, salvaged the film, but only barely, as a weak script let it down.
